I don't think I'd compare the two. The only thing they had in common was the desire to wander out into the wilderness alone. I think a solid case could be made that Tim Treadwell was a nut and may have had a death wish. I don't think McCandless was a nut or had a death wish, just a young man that had some very romantic notions about Mother Nature and freedom.
