But you can't really turn off the magnet unless we continue our economic free-fall. The solutions to the problem are not in the USA but rather in Mexico. 80 years of greedy, monopolistic, protectionist mismanagement on scale that far overrides George Bush (yes, I'm talking about the PRI) has diminished Mexico to the point where we become the magnet.

I still think the solution is comprehensive immigration reform. No, not the watered down version from last year but a combination of tougher law enforcement AND improved access for legal immigration. And, yes, that would have to include improved legal protection for those workers.
