Wow...it's been to long.
Forgive me for taking kind of a Draconian approach to this releasing music thing but in my humble opinion, releasing his current body of new work in 4 or 5 large chunks might be more cost effective. Here's what I'm thinkin'.
Take all of DB's unreleased new material and put it into four or five "albums." This way, he and whoever would be involved could decide which songs go together best. "Release" 4 or 5 singles from each "album" for easy download for a trial period. Listeners can then order which disc or discs they would like based on what they've heard.
I'm basing this idea off of a single theory. A song by itself will satisfy a listener temporarily but a well crafted album might hold the listener longer. This may cause the listener to play it for friends, in the office, that kind of thing and maybe help make "lifelong" listeners out of more people, causing more folks to go running for the disc. Triage is an excellent example of this. No one song stands out as a clear single to me. But together as it's presented, it's amazing.
We're hardcore fans. Hell, I'd listen to a recording of DB tuning his guitar with interest. And although he's doing this for US (the fans) it seems like it will benefit him if there is a greater opportunity for more listeners.
Of course, I could be totally off on this.
Sincerely,
PRH
