I was speaking with a custodian at my school today. His 24 year-old son spent a year in Iraq. He has PTSD and some sort of neurological impairment due to an IED explosion. The young man cannot work, sleeps fitfully, and has alluded to an incident in which a 7-year old was killed. Twice the father has halted his son's attempts at suicide. I can't help but think that an expanded effort in Afghanistan will be fiscally reckless, futile, and result in innumerable other young Americans damaged as this young man is. I've heard it said that Afghanistan makes Iraq look like Denmark.
