Well, it's been a long time since I've seen it but the two key things were I feel like it's sort of a one joke film and that joke is neither witty nor funny enough to sustain the film and it does have this (probably intentional) terrible cheesy 80's look and feel to it that I find really hard to cope with. Yeah, I don't know, maybe it's too funhouse mirror for me. Being that I really like most of Altman's films I was sort of thrown by how little I liked this one. You think the third time would be the charm for me with The Player? I keep wanting to give the film a break and go back and see why I find it so annoyingly bad but the second time I watched it I just remember thinking I can't believe I gave this a second chance. So many people think the film is great and I'm an Altman fan, what am I missing?
