I see it as travelling along your scenario, that is driving the Republican party cart off the highway into the ditch forever, if they win, or another scenario might be that with tea party candidates winning primary elections, the independents, who swing the vote, might just have had a belly full of far right pledges by the time the general election comes around in November, and decide to keep the Dems in power.

The latter is my prayer.
