I don't see many saying the unions should completely go away, but if you cannot see how their power
went too far, then you're blind. The situation became so bad that the companies couldn't fire
employees, even FOR CAUSE. I've got several second hand (but reliable) anecdotes showing just that.
This was a major problem (far greater than executive salaries) that put the auto companies in an
uncompetitive position.
