I'm not sure Karen Armstrong was presenting an argument. I believe she was providing a history and contextual background for the rise of modern fundamentalism. And while I'm quite capable of being reactive myself, I believe that in the end it's probably better to understand something and respond to it from that understanding than to go off half-cocked ...
