"The fact that he chose a firearm as his weapon of choice, IMO, is secondary to the fact that he was batshit crazy."

No, I think that is the primary issue. Let's say he brought a knife, or an axe, or a chainsaw...it is likely he would have had a much more difficult time killing these people if he had. With a gun you can kill quickly and easily and you have a much increased chance of killing several people quickly.

Guns are very easy to acquire in this country and this is why it is going to be the primary weapon of choice.

"The fact that a man who is batshit crazy can get a gun is the issue to me, not that guns exist."

Yes, and he can get one because there are no protocols in place to prevent him from doing so or to monitor the mental health of gun owners.

PEOPLE SNAP. THINGS HAPPEN IN THEIR LIVES AND ONE DAY THEY ARE SANE AND THE NEXT THEY COULD HANG A CAMERA ON THEIR CHEST, WALK DOWN A BOARDWALK AND START BLOWING PEOPLE AWAY.

THERE NEEDS TO BE A DATABASE OF GUNOWNERS AND REGULAR MENTAL HEALTH CHECK-UPS TO CONTINUE TO OWN A WEAPON. WE NEED TO TIE IT IN TO PEOPLE RENEWING THEIR DRIVERS LICENCES OR REGISTRATIONS FOR THEIR CARS. GUN OWNERS NEED TO BE CHARGED TO HAVE THIS DONE EACH YEAR AND I WOULD SET THE FEES BASED ON THE NUMBER OF GUNS YOU OWN.

It's not that crazy people can get guns, it is that anybody can get a gun and go crazy and never be checked on again after they get it.
