EEE,As we see our Democracy threatened by Capitalism run-amuck, as we elect a
billionaire-capitalist to be our president, an oligarchy not much
different from the royal governance our founders fled, evolves. Lost in
the shadows of its greed and personal acquisition are the lives Americans
gave to keep alive the grand experiment it is displacing: 1,354,664 have
died; 1,498,237 have been wounded; 40,917 are missing in all wars.
Arlington cemetery will grow over in the weeds of super-wealth, hidden
from the eyes of the oligarchs. Can we stop it? We must, but how? Is it too late? Imagine a newly
elected president who represents we the people. Just before inauguration
a messenger arrives. "On the day you leave office, I will give you a
billion dollars if you follow this agenda during the time you are
president."Far fetched? I don't believe so. Would the newly elected take the
prize?
Greed trickles down. A billion dollars is a lot of money to one of ours,
but a pittance to one of theirs.Has it already happened? How have we allowed ourselves to be sucked in to the rich's
interpretation of the American dream: accumulate as much personal wealth
as possible, no matter the cost to the community? Early education taught the individual that he/she played a necessary and
obligatory role in the community.Today's education, notwithstanding Common Core, teaches the individual
that he/she plays a necessary and obligatory role in the economy. Until a sense of the community as a whole can be made a part of the
person's citizenship, until citizenship requires a vote in national
elections, the oligarchy will continue to roll. When they gave us a share of stock instead of a pension the bottom line
became as important to us as a $2.00 ticket on a horse in the Kentucky
Derby. Anything they do to raise the price of my share of stock is
alright with me.I've been sucked in. I can become on of them. Democracy, what's that?
I can sit at the table of nobles who see clearer what's best for all.War? A threat to our way of life? We'll start a draft, excluding, of
course, the nobles sitting at the table.
