I was feeling the same sentiments regarding policing as well.
So many of us at the end of our time would remark how we would hate to start out in this occupation in today's time (and frankly, I will be the first to admit that many issues in policing are self-inflicted).
In addition to that, when I started it was taking new officers years to get an attitude of being fed up with the bullshit, while later in my time, new officers were getting to that mindset in two or so years instead of the five to ten years it took my generation.
Another thing is how many of us older officers were noticing new officers lacked the ability to "talk" to people and how the gift of verbal persuasion and the like were slowly dying out.
And I agree wholeheartedly how electronic devices are at the roots of problems involving humane interaction.
