So, today is a huge day for the Democrats running for president. I get to vote today. This is how I think things stand.
Last night Buttigieg and Klobuchar dropped out. The word on this is all the DNC big shots, including Obama, had a chat and decided the only thing to do here was to consolidate what they can behind Biden.
Essentially, Biden, Buttigieg, and Klobuchar were all running on the same centrist pitch and so they all also were theoretically splitting the vote for voters that want a centrist. That's not perfect math but the idea sort of makes sense. So, word came down that Pete and Amy should get out...not to mention those two were having a horrible time getting any votes from people of color each having their own serious issues on this front. So, Biden was the clear choice. This still leaves Bloomberg, the Republican, with all his money running and also admitting he has no path at all to win the majority of delegates and so he admits his plan is also just to find a way to keep Sanders from reaching 1991 (the number of delegates required to secure a victory) so the convention can be brokered...and Mike expects the DNC will hand him the nomination because...well...because he has a shitload of cash and may make Hillary Clinton his VP.
Biden also is saying he does not care who wins the most votes or delegates (he would be saying the opposite of this if he expected he would accomplish this) and also wants a brokered convention. What a surprise.
Then in case anybody forgot Elizabeth Warren is still running and claims she will all the way to the convention...why you might ask since she has not even had a single good showing? Well, simple answer to this is she might be part of Joe Biden's appeasement plan if the convention is brokered...meaning he will select her to be his VP. She has no shot at all at this point of winning any significant amount of delegates so she will not be the nominee...but she could be Biden's VP choice. She also is the other progressive running and so I am sure the DNC folks have asked her to stick around because she is the only hope of draining votes from Sanders...even if just a small amount because they are now playing a math game of keep Sanders away from getting to 1991.
It makes no sense for Warren to hang around when Buttigieg and Klobuchar had better showing than she did...unless she is there to find a way to hurt Sanders.
So, this is the state of the Democratic primary. We have two candidates hanging around (Bloomberg and Warren) that have no path to victory, we have Biden who is struggling just to get back in it and do all he can just to keep Sanders from reaching the 1991 number, and Sanders who is taking flak from all directions...I think today in just a couple hours there may have been more lies told about the guy on TV than through the entire process so far.
From my perspective, despite the fact that so many people are trying to sink him, the candidate with the best chance of beating Trump out of who is left is by miles, Bernie Sanders.
So, all this crap with people sticking knives in his back is a bad, bad idea because this is what will be used in the ads against him if he runs against Trump. Not any of the nonsense about him being a socialist...it will be clips of Hillary, Biden, Buttigieg and all these supposed "left wing media" people being played over and over and over by Trump and his corrupt pals.
