The loss of smell is absolutely another key indicator of our beloved disease, however one has to wonder whether the ingestion of various liquids, chili and/or smoke and other intoxicants can have an influence...
As for Carlsberg I totally agree, their regular lager product is pretty bland (I would however prefer it to the even more bland Heineken who is their primary competition...). They do make more specialized brews which are much better or you could go full hog and find some brews from world-renowned "microbrewery" Mikkeller, which makes some awesome brews...
