He - Eurovision is pretty far from Idol/X-factor shows (although lately there has been a few contestants that have participated in both - decent singers aren't plentiful every where ;-) ).
There are usually a couple of decent songs in the top-five, but actually not necessarily the winner, unless the winner won by a landslide - then its a pretty good bet it is a good song.
Up until the late 90'ies the songs were seldom anything close to what was trending in the normal pop-world, but more something resembling ballads, schlager, soft-pop, euro-dance and always with some truly weird "ethnic" entries typically from eastern europe or iceland. After the Finnish Metal-Band Lorde won, there have been a more diverse genre-mix added to the above mentioned, but the emphasis on the stage-show have now grown to epic proportions with added effects from elaborate CGI backgrounds and stage in addition to pyrotechnics and innuendo galore. Some of these have been really clever (e.g. Swedens Heroes or Austrias Fly like a Phoenix) but others can tend to drown the song (Guy in a hamster wheel...).
There are several compilations on youtube...
