Icon It's several groups of people...

Yes, the one great thing about this past election is a lot of people voted and this was during the worst pandemic we've seen in our lifetimes. So, obviously about half the people in this country believed this was a very important election.

When you breakdown who voted for who and why it does spread things out and you have to consider this.

The one thing I would take out of this election is that a lot of people turned out because they don't like Trump, yes maybe close to 7 million more. This means there were Republicans voting for Biden and in good numbers.

I do think the now 73 million that cast votes for Trump are some very different voter groups. You can split things into male, female, college educated, no college education, rural and urban, white, black, Hispanic, Asian, etc but probably what we want to look at is the why. So, who does Trump attract?

Hardcore Republicans - People that will only vote for Republicans. All these people care about is if there is an "R" next to the name. These are the "Shoot someone on 5th avenue and you'll still get my vote!" voters. They don't care how corrupt, how vile, how criminal a candidate is...still better than a Democrat to them.

Christians - Primarily the evangelicals but Catholics as well, as well as some of the other faith based voters. These voters tend to be single issue voters, abortion is their biggest concern. You can't really have a conversation with most of these people because if you do not buy into their take on abortion they just outright reject you. Some of these voters do not like that Trump is morally bankrupt, they don't like him as a person, and some even believe he is corrupt...but...they see him as a flawed vessel doing god's work. It's the whole "He works in mysterious ways." argument. Some of these voters turned on Trump in this election.

White Supremacists - Trump being an open racist and signaling to other racists all the time gives him the win with these voters. Not much you can do with these people as they are as tough to get through to as evangelical abortion voters if not more so. These are basically hate based voters and Trump stirs up hate more than any politician in my lifetime.

Wealthy people - All policy from Trump is about helping out these people. When we are talking socialism and giant handouts from the government...nobody comes close to getting what these folks get. They don't need the handouts and they don't need the help...but they have now been getting it for so long they expect it and if you don't give it to them they get quite angry.

Conspiracy loons - There are now so many of these people on the right that there is now no longer a "far right" as the far right is now the mainstream right. Let me provide a rather horrifying piece of evidence:

A Monmouth University poll this week showed 70% of Republicans believe Biden only won because he cheated, even though there is no evidence of fraud.

Yes, you have read that correctly...70 fucking percent of Republicans believe lunatic conspiracy theories. Honestly, I know I should not be shooting the messenger here but I see polls like this and just can't believe they are true. How is it possible that 70% of Republican voters are detached from reality? This really can't be happening. 70% of 73 million is a lot of lunatics running around and bodes horribly for them if the Republican party itself has any intent of recovering from Donald Trump. At the moment, they don't look like they do.

FOX News watchers - I count this group as people that have been horribly misinformed by the right wing media outlets that have no interest in providing these people with facts and truths but rather fill their heads with manipulations so they continue to vote for Republicans even if it is against their own interests. I mean the right wing media machine has done a tremendous job of lobotomizing these people if that Monmouth poll is anywhere near accurate.

Libertine Republicans - This group perhaps are people enamored with deregulation and eliminating taxes and that know Trump is a monster but figure the country can survive a monster for 8 years and feel better about that than turning the presidency over to a Democrat. I would assume these people like seeing a government that is crippled and useless because they prefer the government do nothing than actually take any action. They believe in the less is more theory of governing. They like the destruction that Trump inflicts on the country because to them it proves government only creates problems it does not solve them.
