I hear you, Dan, and it's undoubtedly cool to so easily reach out and make the connection that you did. But I do think we appreciate more the things that take a bit of effort to obtain.

And I hear you, EEE, regarding the meaning you derive from music and your wondering about the special place that it may, or may not, hold for your children. 

My daughter has had the benefit of my absolutely stellar musical taste. And yes, she's certainly has her ear open to the sounds that have captured her peer group, but I think when all is said and done, she'll come to know the value and the staying power of what was often the soundtrack of her childhood. Even now, I send her texts with links to songs that she really needs to hear. In the last week I've sent along Van's Bright Side of the Road, The Pogues' Sunny Side of the Street, and Paul Kelly's Roll On Summer Roll On, and The Clash's Clampdown.
