Count me in as one of the last to know - I was looking up songs that sound better with headphones and came across the 8d Audio stuff (how I had never heard of this before is beyond me - being our youngest of 15 is a big Adele fan, when I saw one of her videos on Youtube, I hollered at her to come listen to THIS and when she saw what I had she plainly replied, "Oh, I already know all about 8d Audio."). So I got to messing around and found out, that as with all things, people overuse, abuse, or screw things up by misusing them, and this technology is no different. On a lot of songs, I found it seems as if people jumped on the bandwagon and just recorded these things as if the sound was coming out of a tin can and just swinging back and forth in front of you.  THEN, I listened to the 12d audio of Michael Jackson's Beat It and WOW.  In this case, you can hear how the person that applied this technology in this instance took the time to do it right.  I also found that it seems playing the song through my stereo receiver, rather than my laptop, sounded even more richer in the headphones.  This song by Billie Elish (I had to look up who the singer was) really shows the capabilities of this technology - through my receiver, the sound actually moved in full concentric circles around my head and both vertically and horizontally (it seems my laptop didn't capture and play this back as fully as listening to it through my receiver).
