I was thinking we could do a discussion of it here, which would be most interesting if Marc and Pat gave their thoughts but I think they would prefer not to. 

I would say if the Democrats are relying on this to wake people up to how criminal the Republican party has been...well...they are dreaming.

As you stated everybody has already made up their mind on this issue and many don't care about it at all. 

So, how many people that watch these hearings will be swayed by them? Probably a tiny amount. 

The people that watch these hearings are likely people interested in history. It is really why I will watch, not really in the hope it will help save our democracy.

It is clear many elected Republicans and obviously millions of voters no longer support America being a democracy. So, they want to push us toward a new type of government. Basically. some sort of kleptocracy with a big old fascist twist. 

OK, this is now the choice for the country. Are we done with this grand experiment in democracy and now we want to try something else? Trump supporters no longer want to elect people, they just want their guy put in power until he drops and then a family member takes over. No elections, no voting, as long as we have a dictator that will crush the people they don't agree with, they like it.

The sad part is that we are moving toward that but not because a majority of people in this country want it, but rather because there is a small loud contingent that believes they can pull it off. 

So, while these hearings will show how a sitting US president tried to wipe out an election and destroy democracy and hundreds of elected politicians in his party tried to help make it happen...at least 35% of the voters don't care or support destroying our elections. 

It does not take a majority to destroy our democracy and 35% of the voters wanting to do it is actually, way more than enough to accomplish the feat. So, strap in, here we go. 

Most voters are concerned with what things cost and inflation. They vote their pocketbooks. So, whatever these hearings show, even if they had video of Donald Trump himself gunning down school kids, won't matter to millions of people. 

My question to these people, that I wanted to talk to Marc about, was can you just explain to me why you want this and why you think the United States is so horrible?

I know I can't stop this and I know I can't change their minds, I just want to understand. Why did you want this? Why the destruction of the country? Why do you no longer want a democracy? 

Sure, knowing won't help me in the end but at least I can try to understand it.

In simple terms I guess it is just the idea that people you feel think and hate like you are running things. In this case the people you see as your enemy will be destroyed and their will be no process to get that done, no rules to follow, no checks and balances...you just wipe them out. 

We probably get to live though this or be killed by it. We may as well drop calling this country the United States because we surely are not united and we are in many ways already in a civil war. There are mass shootings daily. Teachers are expected to have combat triage kits for their classrooms and if you are a person of color, an immigrant, a Jew, gay..well...your best investment right now may be a bulletproof vest. Yesterday on the news I saw a first grade teacher having to demonstrate her vest and that she has tourniquets in her class. 

She said the kids know it is there but they don't know what is in it and why. I want to live in a country where kids don't have to think everyday at school could be the day they are gunned down and don't need a SWAT team to protect them. 

Republicans and their TV networks will be lying and distracting like crazy this week but you know what they are saying "Look, if they are talking about how we are attempting to destroy democracy at least they aren't talking about all the dead kids that have been gunned down and will be gunned down."

So, this is a good week for gun owners, lobbyists, and Republican liars.
