When Kent was here and he and I would chat I told him several times that I wished what he was saying was true because then I would at least have this great explanation for what was going on that I could blame on shape shifting lizards and aliens that had the last name Rothschild. 

I could sit here thinking "Oh, thank god, it is not that people are so horrible and stupid it is a bunch of evil lizards doing this to us!" Problem was, it was utter nonsense and the driving force behind these things is just the human thirst for power and unquenchable greed. That's it Nothing more complex than that. 

It is always just Orson Welles' speech to Joseph Cotten on the Ferris wheel in The Third Man.  The thing is we who think about these things always imagine that there is a genius behind the evil plots. That you have to be intelligent to pull it off.

When they wrote that scene in The Third Man they imagine Orson's character as brilliant and charming. 

Truth is, in real life, you don't need to be any of that. You need be only one thing...willing and have enough (not a majority, just enough) people willing to go along with you.

It's just brutality and stupidity and a willingness to wield it. It's the blunt force trauma method of leadership. It's not elegant, nor smart, nor graceful, nor efficient.  It's just the shillelagh and bashing away with it That's why I always come back to that, Mick. 

You've just got to be willing to wield it. Kubrick got it. He showed us the ape bashing away with the bone. We can get bigger, better, more efficient killing tools but in the end, we just want to bash away. You just need to be willing. 

And really who is counting the dots? Not Trump. Not Putin. We are just looking down as the wheel goes round and round.
