No way in hell I am going to start calling Bill Barr a hero because he finally told the truth when they put him under oath. It's kind of the minimum he could have done. None of these Republicans spoke up when we were at a critical point and we should have heard from them. Leading up to the insurrection they were aware of the plan to try to pressure Pence to break the law and go against the constitution and none of them spoke up then. Sure, they said "behind closed doors" things were out of control but we got nothing in public and January 6th came and Trump and his good squad went ahead with their plan. Pushing right up through when the attack on the capitol was happening. 

So, I don't know if them telling the truth now is self-serving. Trump is no longer in power, they are under oath, and many of them were horrified seeing Trump's plan in action on January 6th. I would guess they may have felt it would not actually take place because Pence had told Trump several times he would not do it and had no power to do what he asked and that it would be criminal and unconstitutional to try it. 

These witnesses still are getting death threats from Trump goons. So, there is still a price to pay for telling the truth. The thing is the only way to end Trump's sway over the party is to expose him. Exposing your family and yourself to death threats from idiot Trump supporters is not a simple thing to do. 

It is working to some extent here. The Republican party is fractured. There are those still clinging to Trump, wanting his endorsement, still promoting his lies (the entire Texas Republican party among them!) and then there is the DeSantis side, which now some are seeing as their only way to break from Trump. DeSantis is standing up to Trump, telling him openly he neither cares about nor needs his endorsement. 

The January 6th commission is doing a pretty great job of making Trump look awful for their target audience, elected Republicans, and they are looking for a way to break from Trump. DeSantis is their new strongman, he is willing to lie and cause the deaths of people to win an election, and he is much smarter than Trump. I think come 2024, barring something coming out to hurt him, DeSantis will be the Republican presidential candidate.

So, it makes some sense now that Republicans can start to speak the truth about Trump in public and they likely will after they destroy the Democrats in the 2022 midterms. Then the shift will come, away from Trump toward DeSantis. 

The Republicans don't need Trump anymore. More voters across the country are registering as Republicans than as Democrats. This includes people changing their voter registration from Democrat to Republican. 

Once the 2022 midterms are over, and potentially the Republicans have the House and Senate, they will then be able to hide behind DeSantis and tell the truth about Trump. They won't have to fear Trump after that. DeSantis will stand up to Trump and really start chopping him down...and they will get behind that. Even at FOX News. 

Our country will be fucked, because their agenda of turning us into a theocracy in the dark ages will continue full force and they will change laws to destroy our elections, probably for decades, but in truth...this seems to be what the Republican party wants now and they have enough Americans, not a majority but they don't need one, to get it done. 

Soon 26 states will have criminalized women and doctors who even think about abortions. Suicide rates will be up, unwanted pregnancies will sky rocket, women and girls will be dying in childbirth at record rates, hate crimes will be up, gun violence will rise, but gas prices will miraculously fall. So, Republican voters will be happy. They will continue to lose rights but they will likely not notice or won't care. All they will see is the cost of gas and they will cheer...for a while until they start noticing the effect it has on their lives. They will as the Texas Republican Party stated "Destroy the Education Department", destroy voting rights, they will get the gay and transgender people, they will lock up women and doctors, they will restrict women's travel from state to state, and try to force Blue states to ban abortion as well. 

Gas prices will go down though.
