David named a record Triage and I don't think I ever specifically asked him about that name, but if you listen to the record, it is pretty obvious why he called it that.
If you are an intelligent person that is also emotionally intelligent, and you have empathy for others...the world is going to hurt to live in. It is going to feel like all it is, the entire way it operates, is triage.
I don't feel like we are compromising with children's lives or that is what Biden is doing. He's doing triage, he is trying to save the ones he can save. I admit, it is a horrible and painful thing to come to terms with but we are going to lose lives along the way because there are Hamas maniacs, Netanyahu, Putin, Trump if we give him the chance, that don't feel what you feel. There is a cold indifference that allows them to go ahead and kill people when they think it serves them.
I don't want you to bend in any way in your feelings about protecting children or compromise those beliefs. Yes, we are on the same team.
Driving around these last few weeks I often had the news on in the car. It was brutal, Mick. Honestly, I could not grasp how people could listen to it. It was so full of dead kids and/or kids that were about to die that I had to keep changing the channel. I was thinking, this is nonstop. Nothing but story after story about Hamas brutally killing babies, Israel killing babies, 50 babies in a Palestinian hospital with no incubators, no food, no water, no electricity, doctors and nurses struggling to keep them warm, nourished, and alive...a nurse being interviewed and crying and saying they would all die (they didn't all die thankfully)...my thoughts turned to the idea that I was in a major struggle listening to this, what about the people already prone toward hating Jews or Muslims that are heavily armed and are listening to this spewing out of their TVs and radios nonstop? They are going to start killing people here as well.
The story about the babies the almost 50 babies in the hospital was like one of those people trapped in a mine stories...you know they are alive but for how long? Can they be saved, can someone get to them, is there help? It gives people nightmares. I had nightmares.
Madness.
I do not believe anybody wants to face those situations or compromise the lives of those children. I think for the majority of us, we want to help, we want a good ending to the story. Sadly, these situations force us into triage...force a Joe Biden to make the triage choice. That's not a compromise, it is saving the ones we can and we need to do that.
And for guys like us...the world hurts and worse, we always want to believe there must have been an option that would have prevented it. I just can't crush a Joe Biden for having to have to make those choices.
I don't think we are sliding toward compromising the lives of children, I think madmen are going to kill people and hopefully, we will have a guy like Biden around that will try to slow that down and hopefully save most of them.
