No, I was addressing my own naiveté. I thought after Trump's attack on the guy with ALS, the pussy-grabbing, the overt racism, the lifetime of mob ties, etc... that he was political dead meat. 

Remember the film The Dead Zone, when the power-mad tyrant played by Martin Sheen shields himself with a baby from Christopher Walken's saintly rifleman's gun and how that was the end of Martin Sheen's character's political career? Well, I think these folks would be ok with that. They'd call it a Deep State Conspiracy. And as my father said once, "Americans are different from Germans in several ways. Germans wear Tyrolean caps and say, 'ja wohl,' and Americans wear cowboy hats and say 'sir, yes, sir.' In most other ways, they're exactly alike." I always thought he was unforgivable cynical, but it turns out maybe not. 

A million and a half Germans just took to the streets though, marching against the far right in Germany. So maybe they learned something, just as we were forgetting it.
