When I saw this thread and read the postings, it immediately took me back to when I was a boy and lived in the river bottoms in the middle of the woods with my parents and sister.

This was right around the death of Jim Croce.  My parents had been raving about this remarkable singer who was just breaking out and was suddenly killed in a plane crash. One of the channels - (we only had four - NBC, CBS, PBS, and a barely viewable ABC) - I believe it was PBS - was broadcasting a program with a Jim Croce performance retrospective.  It may have been an already planned program/concert, but I remember, there, this curly-haired man sat on a stool and sang these wonderfully expanding stories in ways not heard quite the same.

I remember my parents and I were lying on their bed watching Croce sing.  For some reason, I seem to recall him wearing a faded, olive-drab army coat but I have since been unable to locate such a performance. I also remember how my parents demanded I be quiet and how sadly enraptured they were with his performance and how sad they were at his death and the interrupted loss of a predicted great talent.

On a side note, we were also on the same oak-framed bed that my father had not only been born in back in 1939 but also passed away in back in 2009.

All this from the mere mention of a musician's name and kin.
