This just popped up in my Youtube feed which tends to be a pretty weird place so that is how I stumbled across this band. However, I clicked on the video and this struck me in just about every way. The music, the look of the players, the entire vibe. I meant to watch just a couple minutes of it just to find out what they sounded like and 24 minutes later, I was still sitting there listening to this.
This is a vibe and atmosphere kind of thing, and each song flows into the next like one long jam. The dynamics are great though and wow, if I were sitting in a bar and this band was playing, I would be stuck there for the entire thing. Plus, I loved how they never speak even when spoken to by the host. The whole thing came across as magical and mysterious in such a beautiful way.
Couple questions for David if you know, first the guitar player starts to fiddle with a box with some knobs on it which unleashes a very middle eastern sound that she continues to play with I guess to adjust how the sound repeats and at what speed. What is that box?
Second, the guitar she is playing is pretty funky looking and suits the look of everything perfectly. It has three P90s, but any idea what that guitar is? I realize it could be something custom. The bass player also has a great looking bass...sorry I am geeking out but you have a better grasp on gear than I do.
The name of the band is Glass Beams, they are from Australia, maybe Kathryn or Al know something about them. This won't be for everyone, but I loved it. E, put your headphones on and take an edible.
