I'm a big fan of Randy too. I thought I heard his influence on a few things. I kind of thought "If I Ever Thought" was sort of an attempt to write something along those lines. I've always got a big kick out of his records and he does inspire me to sit down and write. He also does a pretty damn good job at making me laugh. He seems to have a great sense of humor. I've always loved songs with great lyrics which of course is what drew me to your music as well. The lyrics don't always have to make sense or be well written. I think the most important aspect is the power with which they express something within the context of the music. Right now I'm thinking of Randy's "Uncle Bob's Midnight Blues". I love that song and the lyrics are perfect. It's just a weird ramble of words but at the end you feel like you know Uncle Bob. Hell, I've had nights where I think I may have been Uncle Bob. His songs really do seem to take you someplace. "Let's Burn Down The Cornfield" from the same record always changes the atmospheric conditions in the room when I play it. By the way, I've had the good fortune to have met Dr. John a couple of times and the guy is like the human embodiment of music. He is a walking talking groove. I mean the man just IS music. I think any musician would just love to play with him. Maybe it's a voodoo thing or something but when he was talking to me there was music just bubbling up all around. If you ever get the chance to do something with him grab it. I also don't think I have extended my best wishes on your engagement yet so I'd like to do so now. I hope what you have with your woman feels as right as what I have with mine. If there was a little more of that in the world it would be a better place. Best wishes to you both.
