Dave and I made a genuinely horrific video for 'Swallowed By The Cracks" which thankfully was I think never seen. It was the late 80s, after all, and kitsch was king. Also, one thing that I only realised much later about that period in Dave's and my life was that to a large extent, A&M viewed us as sort of "pretty boys/'tough guys from da street'", and kept on trying to present us like that. This created a kind of cognitive dissonanance in all our dealings with them, as of course they'd never say that directly to us, but acted (or tried to, when we didnt prevent it) as though we all agreed on that tack. Strange, but it explains a lot of bizarre conversations that I recall from those days.
Years later, when I was at the height of my madness, I was sort of involved with a filmed "interpretation" of the songs on Triage, which was a project conceived by a video and film producer named Anne Marie McKay, and executed by her and I think six directors working under her. It was never quite finished, and was so genuinely strange that noone including me knew what to make of it. One thing I remember very clearly is standing in front of a massive bombed out building
in a gangster suit playing the guitar and singing "Born For Love", while behind me a series of executions by firing squad
was taking place. ("Every morning when I rise" READY! "wipe the sleep", etc.. AIM!, "Ask myself, etc." FIRE! KERBLAM!)
It's really funny in a tragic way, and I remember having a terrible time not laughing while we were ho ho shooting it.
I've got to track that thing down. Maybe Dan can post it as a Quicktime movie or something.

The ultralong tag on Born For Love was probably because we were enjoying just sort of pulsing away on that organ thing. Bill's really into endless fades, as well, and when he mixed it to 2-track he just let it go all the way out. I guess it ended up that way on the record, but I never get that far listening to that album, as A) it bugs me, and B) it was the precursor to a heinous era, both for me and the world around me, which I choose to think about as rarely as possible.
Relaxation
I relax by trying to pursue a hobby. I can never seem to get started though, so I'm in a perpetual state of mild panic.
Email
I'm starting to wade through the more recent emails. I seem to be some kind of a spam magnet and so separating the wheat and chaff is something of an issue, like a seemingly impossible one. But I'll look for yours, Kyle T.
A Fine Mess is Sold Out!
However Jeff Wells has another 50 or so, and my bet is that he's a lot more efficient mailer than I am, so you'll get your return mail faster.
I don't have any immediate plans of making more of them, but if one of you out there wants to deal with making and mailing the damn things, I'd certainly talk to you about it.
