Boomtown - Heroes - Make a call to the bullpen...we need a perfect closer. This track closes the album with a sense of renewal...after floating by the underbelly of America, we can at least take solace in simply being heroes.
Bedtime Stories - Stranger - There are few songs that serve as tributes to veterans that come off as subtle and genuine as this track. The message is simple - you lost it all for me - there must be something I can do for you.
Triage - AIDS and Armageddon - It would take some checking, but this might be the first song to mention AIDS in the title. That's beside the point, though, as this is a high voltage track that prompts me, at every listen, to crank the volume and scream out the chorus...especially the live version with Cornelius Bumpus on sax.
A Fine Mess - Paddy Chayefsky's Dead - a masterpiece. This is my favorite Baerwald track of them all. Few musicians can mix artillery fire and a banjo in the same song and make it all make sense.
That's my list - with some brief explanation. I'd like to hear other people's lists.
