Well, I don't want to be the only one responding to Richard, but I have to throw something out here. I have the suspicion that Bush will win Florida. The foreign absentee ballots coming in are largely from people abroad on US Military business, and the military has never been known for its liberal attitude. Plus, Bush was ahead (if not by much) in the original results. Sad (to me) but true. What I am personally rather incensed about is that we're still stuck in the terribly antiquated system of the electoral college. Why only the majority should count in each state and not each person count equally is a mystery to me. It may have made sense when we didn't have computers and phone lines by which to transfer information about voting, but that time is long gone.
I shall end this with a couple of lovely quotes from W himself. I think everyone has gone a bit overboard in making fun of his public speaking abilities, but this first quote has nothing to do with those skills. It's a perfectly well-formed idea, with accurate word choice: "When I have been asked who caused the riots and the killing in LA, my answer has been direct and simple: Who is to blame for the riots? The rioters are to blame. Who is to blame for the killings? The killers are to blame." I'm just going to let that one speak for itself, in all its remarkably stupid glory.
And one other well-formed sentence, which is delightfully appropriate (but horrifying) for our current situation: "I believe we are on an irreversable trend toward more freedom and democracy- but that could change."
