What would happen if DB only sold AFM on ebay? The selling price would be a big downward slope as time passes, where the first and most eager demanders would pay a very high premium (perhaps $152.50 or so), then as time passes and more copies are distributed the price would fall to equilibrium. (That is of course with the assumption of increased supply - with only 500 copies around these rules would not apply, but that's another lesson.) According to "economic law" the price would continue to fall until the selling price no longer created value for the seller, at which point he would no longer offer it for sale. Just before that, everyone that wanted a copy would be able to get it for "cost".
I am the evil one that has made AFM available. I am not an aspiring saint, so don't try to shame me into guilt. I want nothing more than to see David as succesful as he wants to be, with the hope that in so doing he releases more and more wonderful music and hopefully gets his ass on the road so we can see him perform live. My motive is to increase exposure, which I am doing by making more people aware of the fact that AFM exists. If enough people start showing an interest, then sooner or later some blood sucking record company will come knocking and then it will be up to David to see how he wants to proceed.
Anyone that writes me during or after an auction does not get misled in anyway, and time permitting I let them know about the web site and the copying network. I even caution people not to get too carried away with their bidding. One buyer (of the three I have sold) lives in Poland so she would not have even been able to get the copy any other way.
Is it working? Got people talking here after quite a lull! I know that there are participants in this forum that were either directly pointed to this site by me or prompted into activly seeking it out because of my offerings.
I am going to keep doing what I do. I have got a few more copies left, and will list them as well. I bought 15 or so, and have shared many of those with friends and even a local radio station.
Now if I could only get someone to bid on that damn Ken Griffey Jr Fotoball!
