Doc,

I share David's concern about the alcohol, and I wish I could just send this to you away from the view of the message board.

As one who has "been there" regarding alcohol, all I know is it can be very sneaky...what seems benign in the beginning can turn into a nightmare.  You can feel in the mood for a drink, or "want" a drink...but do you NEED a drink?  There can be a fine line.

Please, please do NOT self-medicate with alcohol. Pray, meditate, see a compassionate, non-judgemental counsellor or physician, get on appropriate medication (if that's even necessary), but NOT alcohol.  It is probably the most dangerous drug out there, and of course, perfectly legal.  Trouble is..it makes you feel good, and then it makes you feel BAD...real BAD.

I came very close to screwing up my own life with alcohol, also out of an innocent self-medication thing.  It is a very progressive process, and before long, you can be in a deep well, and not know how to get out.  You may want to stop, or cut back, but your brain is stronger than you are..and (through a biochemical process having to do with dopamine), it won't let you.  In other words, your brain becomes stronger than your mind, or your will.  I am NOT getting on my high horse here, or preaching.  I am not suggesting you need rehab, AA, 12 step etc...I do feel that we are friends, maybe only "cyberfriends", but that is enough for me. There is a way to control this thing, and I would love to talk/help, anytime...If Dan will allow, and arrange something confidential away from the board, I will be pleased to give you my personal Email, and phone number.   Please CALL or WRITE...anytime you feel the need to, and hopefully before the need to drink.

And I DO care,

Peace and Love,

Gene
