First off, thanks so much Reg for the wonderfully well-reasoned and clearly-stated post. Bravo.
Secondly, glad to see both Richard and Kent responding in reasoned ways. Congrats, gents, particularly Kent. While I may not agree with either of you, I'm glad to see calm and amiable posts.
Thirdly, I'd like to try and non-confrontationally address you for a moment, Richard. See, I know you see this place as a kind of political fight club, but I honestly think you're about the only one who thinks so. Me, I think of it as a place to talk about music and occasionally shoot the shit about politics and other DB-related things. Maybe if you were to approach it a bit more as an exchange of ideas as opposed to a battle, things might be more productive AND more civil. Also, just for the record, my lack of response to your non-partisan response was not refusal to discuss but honest incomprehension. Seriously, I often have difficulties understanding what you (and sometimes Kent too) are trying to say. The sheer quantity of loaded terms, lingo, catch phrases, and obscure analogies makes it difficult for a layman like me to grasp your intentions. It would make things easier to discuss if we could converse in plain english, without fashionable terms (as I am removed from fashion) and the like. I am not able to be convinced by such things, because I don't understand them. I could post music theory treatises here, but no-one would get them, and convincing people would be an impossibility.
Anyway, again thanks to our local firebrands for delightfully calm and reasoned posts, and here's hoping for more.
best wishes,
Scott
