I think that you obviously have some damn good insight on this EEE and I agree with what you're saying. It does say that the offer from Vegas was "lucrative" in the article and quite obviously what these guys hope to do at some point in many cases is leave these posts for a high paying job in the private sector. MJG could also have a very good point that a lot of these guys are trying to do this now before they get caught up in major issues that make the FBI look bad. Such as cooked intelligence and a half assed investigation into who leaked that CIA operatives name. If the FBI looks like a bunch of chumps...and it's been very obvious that the Bush administration is a bunch of finger pointers (they did it, he did it, they gave us bad info) the suddenly these jobs they get offered in the private sector become...umm at the very least less lucrative. Not to mention that it's pretty damn obvious that working for the FBI or CIA has become a lot tougher because, as EEE says, rather than allow these guys to do their jobs they suddenly are being bullied by administrators who have no business shoving them around and looking over their shoulders. More freakin' nonsense from Bushco really.
Here's my problem though. I don't think that any information gets out accidently...and from all indications the Bush crew are pretty tightknit. So nothing really is going to slip out by accident from them...giving them the benefit of the doubt here. So, in this story on Larry Mefford and why he's leaving...they mention burnout and the guy that does is on record and they use his name. I'd say that guy is trying to be fair to Mr. Mefford. Later in the article an anonymous FBI source says that he's leaving because the offer is "lucrative"...which if anyone in the general public reads this story and cares makes Mr. Mefford look like an ass. In other words it's sort of an assassination of his character to say he's turning his back on his country, during a time when we obviously need counter terrorism guys more than ever, for a big paycheck. Also this is at a time when so many Americans are out of work and struggling and here's this guy from the FBI riding off into the sunset after three months on the job to go work for Steve Wynn for lots of money. I think they intentionally wanted to make Mr. Mefford look bad.
I'm not saying I'm an expert on anything or I know anything but I think I do know how to read a news story. I'm sure Mr. Mefford is getting a good job with Mr. Wynn...that makes sense. The reasons why he's leaving are a bit obscure though...and in my opinion should make people a bit curious.
The thing is like your story about the Frontline thing...I think it becomes a little complex and really is not a sexy enough story to attract a lot of attention. It's the big picture that I'm trying to figure out here though. For some reason, and I don't think people could say I'm getting into Kent's area because I'm basing these thoughts on simple facts, there seems to be a load of turmoil in Washington and I just get the sense that it all seems related.
Call me crazy...I'm sure the right wingers will.
