I'm sure there's plenty of Pat fans out there in db land..
Just saw him last night in a small club in Annapolis, MD, with Christian McBride (bass), Antonio Sanchez (drums). I've seen Pat many times over the years, and he never ceases to amaze me.
He opened with a great solo acoustic set, including his "Harp guitar" (too bizarre to describe) and played very lyrically and brilliantly (really jazz/folk music). Then picked up the electric and absolutely tore the thing up. I've heard him do those fast bop phrases before, but just in isolation on particular tunes. Last night, he burned, and literally didn't come up for air, until the end of the set. I have a lot of jazz guitar favs...but in my mind, at least as far as living jazz players..he is still KING. If the trio is scheduled to play near you...DON"T MISS 'EM!!
