Dan built this site and has maintained it now for over 20 years. You are the reason it exists, in that yes, your work inspired Dan to make a website that promoted that work. I understand where you are coming from, most of the site collects your work and info about your work.
The message board is a different thing where people just chime in about what is on their minds. I don't think anybody would think the message board is a reflection of what you think. It really is a decades long discussion and like any long discussion it strayed, really a long time ago, away from being about what was once the central topic. A few of us have remained, over all these years.
I don't think anything we've done or said here has been an issue. This is a far more civil place than any social media site anybody can name. Yes, we got into politics and current events and when we got into them, people had disagreements. That should be expected. Nobody bullied anybody.
I don't know why you say you don't belong, I think you belong. I appreciate you are willing, and quite capable of having a discussion. And these days, who does not understand wanting to say to some people "What the fuck are you talking about?"
The last thing I want to do is cause anybody any grief, particularly someone I like. I do like you David, not just your work, you, as a person, as a human being. You are a good man. I feel the purpose behind what you communicate.
I think Dan chose to make a website about your work because he felt that too. It does mean something to people.
I know Dan will honor whatever your request is, he did not do this all this time to cause you aggravation.
When you contributed here, it did mean something, it was worthwhile, it was part of how we charted the bizarre transformations of our government and our world. Your perspective mattered, made me feel less alone in this, and I know it did for others as well.
But let's just be honest, if Dan takes your name down, says this is no longer the DBIS, and the DB is not David Baerwald, then essentially he would just be nuking the site. Yeah, he can create a message board, some other website, if he wants to create another one, but that means just remove all he's worked on for the last 20 some years.
I don't know if there could be a compromise, a disclaimer put up at the top of the message board that this site is not affiliated, owned, nor operated by David Baerwald, as a way to make clear, what is here is not authorized nor condoned by you in any way.
Something that preserves what Dan has done over the years while at the same time saying openly, you have no involvement.
I'd like to see this work out for both of you in such a way you are both comfortable with it.
