My favorite recordings are ones where there is some sort of continuum from track to track, so that the album is a complete "work" rather than a bunch of tunes just stuck together. Sometimes it's a theme album, sometimes the songs are united by the type of sound, concept or arrangement. But in all, where the whole thing flows. Of course, I gotta like the performer, the tunes, the musicality..that goes without saying. I will say that more recent CD's go on TOO LONG to really do this as well, as the older classics, which were all about 30 to 35 minutes (which is all my musical attention will allow without boredum on just about anything in the pop/rock vein). Notable exceptions are stuff like Triage and Bedtime Stories which go on considerably longer, but then again it's DB..and the material fits right into my ideal of something I can listen to straight through without having to SKIP tracks.
