"...what a horrific procedure partial birth abortion is say nothing of your standard run of the mill abortion."
You're right, of course, that the procedure is "horrific." It makes me squirm to think about it. I've already told you how I feel about all this stuff and I told you I think in this instance it's an area where you can't turn it into a "this is right...this is wrong" black and white deal. I told you I respect your feelings on it and I think it's honorable that you feel that way. I think we can argue politics but not abortion. The thing about abortion to me is that the government does not belong in that area. It's a medical issue. All using it as a political toy does is tear us apart. That's what makes Ashcroft's behavior disturbing and shameful. There's no crime but he's attempting to bully a hospital to release private medical records to use as a "political tool"...that is not what our government or America is about. It's cheap and disgusting.
"I thought this was what the Democrats had been doing all this time in the name of Cultural Diversity."
Kevin, I'm against anyone tearing us apart. Also I'm not a Democrat...I do believe though at this stage in the game that they are more about bringing people together than most Republicans are. Sure they screw it up too and sometimes their programs cause more harm than good but there's an effort there...no matter how wrongheaded...to at least try. Now I do think there are decent people on both sides...but the Bush people are most certainly "against us" and I mean us as a people, as a country, as a culture, as a society. I think we are a wounded country right now and the policies Bushco are pushing are causing more bleeding and more damage. I know I'm harsh when I talk about them but they don't deserve respect in my opinion. The man does not act like a president...the things he says are an embarrassment, not to mention his number one advisor, Mr. Rove, is exactly the kind of scum that we don't want anywhere near our politicians never mind the White House. These guys are bad news for us Kevin, me and you and everyone else...and the worst part is we've basically been living under the same crew since the Reagan 80's. They are all the same company...and you can't even call them Republicans because that would insult anyone who actually is one.
"I'm not sure there's a wishy-washy way to go about the war in Iraq so I suppose you're right. What sort of middle ground are you refering to?"
Well, no there isn't but I wasn't talking about that war. I'm talking about what in general would appear to be a war on us...as average everyday tax paying Americans...and the ones declaring war on us are Bush, Cheney, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld, Rove, Wolfowitz...the whole damn lot of them. Sure, Tenet needs to go too...we need a housecleaning. We've needed one since Reagan...and that includes Clinton. The fact is our choices come next November will be between Bush and Kerry. I've never voted for a Democrat or a Republican in the presidential election in my voting life. I've been a third party guy but the fact is this year I'll vote for Kerry. I do believe he's the most interesting choice for president either side has put before us during my voting years. Yes, he's a rich guy from the east coast that went to Yale and was in Skull & Bones...just like Bush...but in my opinion that's where the similarities end. Where Bush sees the world in left and right, black and white, good and evil, rich and poor...always the extremes...Kerry understands...like most rational people...that there's a middle...a gray area...a common ground where we can meet...that's the middle ground I meant...and we need to allow him to help us reach it before Bushco bombs it into the stone age. When we're there Kevin you'll know because when you talk about your beliefs, in regards to abortion or whatever, people will respect that and not call you names because of what you believe...and you will return the favor. In that quest Kevin...we should be on the same side.
Respectfully,
Reg
