Foxton was quite polite, actually, and very unassuming. He seemed dumbfounded that they were getting any notice at all in the US, and blown away by the well attended show, hence his comment to me about "th' album". He was very happy of course that people were buying the record. Don't ask me which one, I forgot; I think it was just titled, "the JAM". As for his personal stats...well, I don't usually check gents out in adjacent urinals all that closely, but he was puffing on a cigarette, and squinting his eye from the smoke when zipping up his fly.
As I recall, it was like a family affair. Dad or Uncle helped them bring in speakers, amps, and help with the mixer. I got the feeling they had just unloaded the gear from the van. They did the whole thing themselves; I think the club just gave them the space, and absolutely no help after that.
Help me out here, I kinda blurred some of those bands out...remember Stiv Bators (Dead Boys??), and another group, at least whose name I adored: the Damned. I forgot the bandmates names, but one guy was called Rat Scabies, and another (I think) Captain Sensible. After a while, there were many such groups...ask my brother, he knows 'em ALL. When he first brought home the Bollocks ...Sex Pistols record, I thought it was outrageous shite. But then again, I was still enamored with Poco, Flying Burritos etc...at the time; what the hell did I know?
