Where do I get my beliefs? Fuck if I know - they just happen. I don't have the need to cite sources for the footnotes in my pending book on shape shifting eggnog swilling re-gifters. I don't delve into every piece of alternate reality literature I can find, and then actively try to apply it in every aspect of life. I got what needed getting out of that film without having to read a half dozen other critics reviews to make sure that my interpretation was the same as the director's.  

We both agree that it is fear that drives the violence and hatred in this country. Where we differ is that you apparently think it's some grand scheme that is carefully manipulated and controlled by someone or something. I don't. While there are companies and organizations that benefit from fear, the fact that it is so present in our society is the people's fault. If Cops draws a strong percentage of the tv viewing teenagers, I'm not going to blame the acne medicine manufacturers for the story lines. Those same advertisers run spots on Touched by an Angel.  

Americans want everything to be easy and it's far easier to not think than it is to actually use your brain. So the general populace eagerly accepts whatever sort of stereotype or generalization that is the easiest possible explanation for all that ills them. It's a lot simpler to blame crack smoking black thugs than to fault white collar criminals that have so distorted the social structure through manipulation of the government. The impact of poor government, whether it be misguided social policies, tax structures that shift the burden to workers, and the utter lack of corporate oversight do thousands of times the damage than all the gangstas knocking over a 7-11. But we aren't going to address that, we're going to enact three strikes and you're out, zero tolerance, no loitering laws, and welfare to work.
