So far everything I've read is knee-jerk. They're talking about banning water for swimming pools, water maintenance for public parks, and so forth. The hugest majority of our water comes from reservoirs fed by rivers--not much well water--so unless the supply starts replenishing in the mountains there's not going to be much natural relief. There's been a bit of rain lately, but it would have to rain for about 4 straight months to even think about catching up.

I haven't seen state and local governments offer much other than increasing the bans on things and stepping up enforcement, which is really too little too late.

I did see one op-ed piece a while back about using nuclear plants to desalinate seawater to reintroduce to the water supply. The problem is that there are only 2 nuke facilities in the state and there's not a lot of public support for any more, especially since the 2 we have are already near (but not on) the coast.
