It was pretty much no contest and we knew that going in. Palin was a robot reciting her lines. She did nothing to help what is now a quickly sinking McCain campaign. It was obvious that not a single word she said was her own thoughts. It was all preprogrammed nonsense right down to her comment that she felt no need to provide answers to questions but instead felt she was there just to talk to the American people. Sorry, honey, but that's what your campaign stops and town meetings are for, during a debate you answer questions and respond to what others say. When she admitted she would not be doing that she admitted she was not prepared and could not answer the questions. So instead we got the gibberish. We got shots here and there at Obama and Biden with her cute little wink and smile. We got the same non-answer answers she offers all the time. She did not have to do the uncomfortable dance she's had to do when confronted by a reporter who had the chance to follow up when Sarah began to babble.

Pretty much Ms. Ifill (who I found to be a pretty terrible moderator) just let both candidates say whatever they wanted and moved quickly to the next question. It was a dull debate with about the only moment of drama being Joe getting choked up about his son. This moment was all the more dramatic because Palin was coming across like one of those Disneyland animatrons and suddenly Joe Biden reminded us there was a human being on the stage...which in a moment of pure insanity Palin followed Joe getting choked up by pointing out yet again that John McCain is a maverick! It was like the amimatron was stuck and just kept saying "We're mavericks!" (smile), "We're mavericks!" (smile), "We're mavericks!" (smile).

I know I was not the only one thinking would somebody please unplug her!

The McCain campaign is in huge trouble today and Palin did nothing to help or improve things. She peaked the day she gave her speech at the RNC and she's proved to be just another giant hole in the side of McCain's sinking ship.
