...how it pans out is you have healthcare and Americans have "insurance" or "please die" as options. The insurance companies and big pharmaceutical companies don't want a change to the system so people are paid to make a lot of noise and distract us with nonsense about "socialized medicine", "illegal immigrants" swamping the system and getting free care, and the "government screwing up your healthcare."

They don't want Americans to understand that there are many working models to choose from around the world that provide "care" not just "insurance" to their citizens. We don't have to reinvent the wheel we just need to choose the option we like best from the working models. Mr. Reid keeps things very diplomatic in his talk and sort of claims not to know why Americans seem to be going kicking and screaming into any sort of "universal healthcare" system but the truth is he says why. Profit is why and the cowardice of politicians to stand up and say "this is not right and we are going to fix it" because the companies that profit from Americans being sick also put a lot of money in their campaign coffers.

Mr. Reid spells it out when he says what Americans need is their own Tommy Douglas, the guy that just stands up and says "Ok, this is the right thing to do and we are doing it."
