For anyone who has seen it, I'd be interested in thoughts about how the whole thing is from Mattie's viewpoint, looking back on the events that took place. In particular, the change in how she views both Rooster and LaBoeuf after they each save her life.
Up to each of those points, her narrative stresses each man's weaknesses, but following LaBouef's intervention with Chaney and Rooster's mad dash to get her to a doctor, each is presented in a more glowing perspective.
