I had a similar conversation last month with a brother-in-law. He wasn't satisfied that I seek out information from NYT, WAPO, Time, Newsweek, The Economist, various on-line sites, as well as some right-of-center folks like David Frum and Jordan Peterson. He wanted to know why I don't tune into Fox News. I informed him that it's a propaganda arm of the GOP. When I mentioned that the WAPO has cataloged 3000 confirmed Trump lies, he replied that he doesn't trust the Washington Post! This is a guy with a master's degree and a six figure income, no discernible economic insecurity in his household, and yet, he one of them!

This didn't start with Trump, the nativism and bigotry have been there for centuries, but the seeds of this political transformation were sown by Nixon's Southern Strategy, Gingrich's Contract For America, Rush Limbaugh and an array of other media hate/fear peddlers who modeled themselves after him. Fox News allowed it to enter the homes and consciousness and DNA of Americans at the click of the remote, and yes, Kevin, I have fears for our country that I would have never imagined a few short years ago.
