I have no idea how to bridge the divide with my sister because she will always bring up politics. Even at a memorial for my younger brother two years ago her focus was on Hillary's emails. I can give her facts and my perspective but the minute I'm not there to reason with her she's tuned into conservative media (or so it seems) where they do her thinking for her. I've reached the point where I no longer care to try. It's pointless until she's willing to open her mind to other perspectives.

It would be helpful if more was said through our news media about the actual immigrant numbers but we all know how easily those facts would be dismissed by those who find them inconvenient to their worldview. Or even some reports about the countries these desperate people are fleeing to help give an understanding of why this is happening. I see very little of that. I'll often hear people say, "these people need to get in line if they want to enter the country." There is no line. It doesn't work that way. Immigration to the US on a temporary or permanent basis is limited to three routes: employment, family reunification, or humanitarian protection. Many of the people we see trying to enter are seeking humanitarian asylum but this administration doesn't appear to care.

For Trump* to wipe away with his executive order pen much of what Obama worked to accomplish, it would seem simple for him to do the same with our immigration policy if it was truly a problem created by Democrats. I'm bothered by trying to make sense of any of this anymore.
