Icon Different kind of "talking"....

I think we are talking about a different kind of "talking".....

For example, on one layer, have you ever had a friend that no matter where he or she is, or who she or he is encountering, can just talk to anyone and not only seem as if they have known that stranger for years, but at the same time can make that person genuinely feel like that he or she is the most important person in the world?

Another layer is when a person can just converse with anyone under any circumstance.  One of our best detectives, when it came to dealing with young Black males, was an out-of-town hillbilly/country guy.  This guy has this quality where not only could he say about anything to these males, but he could almost never piss them off.

Another one of our best detectives was a devout Catholic man.  One of his greatest strengths was his ability to talk to all sorts of people in a deeply sincere way without appearing to be judgemental at all.

But I guess the strongest attribute is when you have a person that knows, understands, and is willing to use their two most effective tools in their grasp and that is their brain and mouth.

So, it's not just "talking" to what I'm referring to, but the whole gamut of communication and this includes swallowing one's ego, too.

One of my most effective and often used tools to get someone to do what I wanted them to do was to just quietly ask them, "What can I do to get you to do 'this or that?'"  Most times what the person wanted wasn't even really be that difficult to do.  And if they still refused, I would explain to them what would come next if they didn't, but giving the person the opportunity to control their own fate was very effective, rather than a firm demand.
