When I was taking flying lessons probably the only thing we did, and it came in an early lesson, that made me think "Holy shit!" was when my instructor was showing me slow flight. This is a deal where you slow the plane down, let the tail drop, so you flying very slow and the engine stalls, at which point the plane begins to nose dive, and you have to restart the engine as you are basically beginning to plummet toward earth.
My instructor, who often seemed to be screwing with me, would say things like "Now, this could kill us if you don't restart the engine." and sit there looking like he was waiting to see if I would kill us. A few times we would go up and he would say "This could be the day we die." and I would look at him and say "Tim, is this one of your teaching strategies or what?" and he would say "I like to see how my students hold up under pressure and you always seem way too calm so, yes, I will be testing you."
To which I would usually say "What the fuck, Tim."
He had this female instructor as well working for him at the time and he would laugh about things that would happen with a student she was working with, she was at the stage where she was teaching him to land, and he says to me "At some point I am going to have you go up with her." and I asked why and he said he felt I should see what it was like with other instructors. I asked "Is she always telling her students they might die today." and he said "No, she never says that but she can't fly for shit and I don't know how she became an instructor so you will at least have more of a feeling that you are going to die when you go up with her. You are too fucking calm with me."
Maybe as a country we are in a flat spin. I'm not sure. Maybe it is just a slow flight thing where the plane stalls and we just have to restart it. It just feels like we are going to die as the thing nosedives and the engine has gone silent.
Each day I see positive signs and negative signs. I definitely hate the polling that says the three most popular candidates for president among Republican voters by a very wide margin are Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis, and Donald Trump Jr. as these are three of the biggest piles of shit the party has and that is saying something.
I mean I can understand they fell for Trump the first time but they want to vote for him again? You have to be a total maniac to want that. DeSantis is literally a guy that will say anything he thinks people want to hear and has been killing people in Florida with his total disregard for Covid safety and working to make it the most ignorant state in the nation. Really, people want to vote for that? The guy openly lies and goes after anybody that tells the truth. Donald Trump is one of the dumbest people I have ever had the displeasure to listen to but Don Jr. may be the biggest idiot on the planet. He makes his old man look good, which is next to impossible so how the hell could anybody want this clown to run for president?
DeSantis is smarter than both Donalds combined but he is a total con man that actually knows what he is doing and what it will do to people. He is kind of doing us a favor screwing with Trump but holy shit, this is not a guy that should be in politics.
I hope with Republican voters right now the reason these guys are so far out in front is it is just a name recognition thing but if you can't see that these guys all want to bullshit the hell out of you...well...you either are not too bright or just love the taste of shit being crammed down your throat.
It is good that there is a war within the Republican party right now about the idiotic crap the RNC did with saying the attack on the capitol was just legitimate political discourse and censuring Cheney and Kinzinger but we will see if they take this offramp or backpedal yet again as Trump goes after Pence for telling the truth.
As the Covid pandemic starts to wane, it seems the fever of stupid within the Republican party has yet to break.
