That blew my mind. I read a book once about some guy Dalrymple wrote retracing the steps of a 6th century saint or monk or ascetic and he walked through all these places on his way to some holy place and he descrivebn the violence both past and present and the sense of Wild West lawlessness in places like Syria and Lebanon and Turkey and into Israel I think that was probably 25 years ago give for take. Maybe the climate makes people hot blooded and crazy. if they lived here they would curl up in a ball and not even venture out into the bloody cold dark rainy Cotswolds.
