Adding a weapon into the mix!
Last weekend, my former teaching partner was briefly held hostage by her husband at their home. She escaped to a neighbor's house, called 911, a SWAT team arrived, and her husband was eventually found dead, having shot himself. Alcoholism had been an issue, and I've heard depression was too. Had a weapon not been in the house...? I'm reminded of that quote about so many of us leading lives of quiet desperation.
