"Kevin you seemed to indicate that you thought most abortions were done because women were using it as a form of birth control. Where in the world would you come up with an idea like that? Do you believe there is someone tracking the statistics and compiling a list of names and reasons for why these women have put themselves through this procedure? Did you just say that because that's what you heard? I'm just curious. I respect you and your opinions and feelings and I'm glad you would not want to participate in an abortion but I am somewhat confused by some of your remarks."

Doc,

I believe I said far too many abortions in this country are done for purposes of either failed or neglected birth control.  I don't believe I put this number in the majority.  But your response did prompt me to do some research and see if a percentage could be found.  No luck.  The number may be there but I haven't found it.  What I did find was something from the J. Henry Kaiser Family Foundation which gave some statistics for 1997.  In that year there were 1.2 million abortions in the United States.  Of those, 14,000 were performed as a result of rape or incest.  It didn't give a reason for the others.

It's not an easy subject to talk about and keep from getting emotional.  I'll just leave you with one thought.  The decision to abort a pregnancy is a very difficult one for most people...Why is that?

Sincerely,

Kevin G
