Maybe the celebrity smackdown should be a tag match between Paranoia Jones and Tehran Dave against The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy (moi) and Jonah The Burly Beer Buddy (Jonah Goldberg, from the NRO). Next thing you know, the old tapes of OBL and his goons will actually transpire to be Bush 41, Cheney, Baker and Ollie North all dressed up like fundies and saying "Al'll be Prez" instead of "Allah be praised".
Like I've said, just because there's a proliferation of ability to gather info and the FOIA doesn't make rampant paranoia anymore true. Since Julius Ceaser, power has corrupted and absolute power has corrupted absolutely. To quote Bill Hicks out of context, if governments want to rule, tax and bully all of us - why would they allow even one of us to be killed? Why allow the serfs an easy option?
That's one reason why I like Bruce Cockburn and am not thoroughly convinced with other left-leaning political songwriters. Whilst he knows we're all screwed, some writers (and both Jackson Browne and DB seems guilty of this from time to time) have stayed noticeably silent when it comes to, say, the idea Clinton allowed the 1st WTC bombing, the USS Cole and the Embassy attacks. Had Alex Jones (and Dave and Jackson for that matter) been as final in their declarations of Clinton's fuck ups as they have with Bush and 'the right wing' then I could accept more of what they say.
